Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax
Henry County and the Cities of Hampton, Locust Grove, McDonough and Stockbridge are pursuing a Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (T-SPLOST) for certain transportation improvements throughout the County and its cities for better street maintenance as well and improvements to ensure continued mobility of people and goods throughout the Henry Region. A total of nearly $245,000,000 is expected to be raised over the 5-Year Period to be split between the County and Cities based on an intergovernmental agreement signed in July 2021.
If approved by the voters in November 2, 2021 T-SPLOST has the following implications for projects in the Locust Grove Corporate Limits:
- Highway 42 Corridor Congestion Relief Project
- Bill Gardner (West) Widening and Highway 42 Extra Lane Projects
- Traffic Signal (Justification Study+Plans) Highway 42 at Bethlehem Road
- Resurfacing in Patriots Point and Tanger Ridge Subdivisions
- Resurfacing in Leesburg Plantation, Waters Edge, Sims Street/Square Circle
- Resurfacing in Skyland, Barnes Station, Grove Creek, Grove Park and Jackson Street
- Resurfacing in Linden Park (Berkshire, Briarcliff, Hawthorne) Area
- Pedestrian, Bicycle, Signage facilities
A total of a minimum of $7.5 million is expected to be collected with the bulk going towards congestion relief and resurfacing.
